GENERAL CLUB INFORMATION
Brief Club History
Our club was organized in 1983, and for 11 years we operated as an area committee of the
Gordon Setter national or "parent club", the Gordon Setter Club of America, Inc, In 1994, the NODROG Gordon Setter
Club of Michigan was officially licensed as a fully independent organization by the American Kennel Club, but we maintain
close ties to the GSCA.
Gordon Setter Recue
We annually host:
- One AKC field trial,
- Up to three AKC hunt tests,
- Concurrent specialty show with the Michigan Sporting Dog Association, the Ann Arbor Kennel Club,
- A number of educational and "fun events", including a yearly eye exam (CERF) and heartworm clinic,
- A summer fun picnic.
We are especially proud of our Gordon Setter Rescue Program. We place an average of 5 dogs annually in new homes.
These dogs are evaluated for any health and temperament issues and placed with new families. We are always looking for
potential foster families as well as folks willing to adopt.
Gordon Setter Breeder Referral Program
We also have an active breeder referral program which matches prospective owners with responsible breeders of puppies
and adult dogs.
Current Membership Logistics
At present, we have approximately 100 members, most of whom reside in Michigan, but also have members in Maryland,
Ontario, Indiana, Florida, Ohio, California, Maine, and Minnesota. Membership is open to all interested Gordon Setter
fanciers, but Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Ontario residents will benefit the most from club membership since
all club events are held in Michigan.
